Thai Intel Analysis: The Thai unit tracking government concession found that Thaksin selling Thaicom, a firm that owns several satellite with rights over Thai space space, to Singapore sovereign fund, Temasek, broke the law-are this could mean a great many thing, including the Thai finance minister opinion that Thaicom could be returned to Thailand ownership without paying anything. Korn, the finance minister just said that he wil table the ruling to the Thai government cabinet for what to do next. That “Next” could be, first to purchase Thaicom at fair market value; or second, it could mean an outright slapping Thaicom with a legal case-to which it could end up in the courts; or third it could mean a bargaining power over Temasek for a favorable buyback price; or fourth, it could mean a severe worsening of the Thai-Singapore relationship-as negotiations drags out in politics and public. The likely outcome is now strongly related to “POLITICS” inside Thailand-where when Thaicome was sold to Temasek-it sparked an outraged against Taksin for selling out Thai national security-to the extent that Taksin was called a “TRAITOR.” Taksin responded by saying he tried to sell his many companies to Thai interest but no buyers-while even to today, Taksin maintains that he sold his interest as he was getting deeper into politics and does not want a charge of “CONFLICT of INTEREST.” However, the case developed into a political football, where the Thai government is riding on a wave of “NATIONALISM FEVER” to cover up its “KILLINGS” of about 100 protesters. The strategy to build that nationalism fever, is to suddendly, about a week after the killing ended, Korn said Thailand was then buying back Thaicom-for “NATIONAL SECURITY” purpose-even though the satellite involved are commercial TV and Internet related. The spark of the controversy however, stemmed from during the protest-where the government tried to block Red Shirt TV that the signals were being transmitted by Thaicom-but had to navigate through Singapore in getting the order to kill the red TV signal.
Thaicom also faces other charges-not only this latest findings-as Taksin was found guilty of corruption associated with his assets on many cases-that also involves Thaicom and Shin Corp, another company of Taksin. These other cases are are a web of complex legal matters-that can literally be interpret by the Thai “ANTI-RED ACTIVIST” justice system. Thaicom and Shin have said that they are ready and wil fight in the courts-against all the charges. Thaicom is worth about US$300-500 million and Shin much more.
It is yet to be seen how both government reacts to the situation-if proceed on the current path-however, for the Thai counterpart-it is all for “INTERNAL” consumption as “NATIONALISM FEVER” is running high. The process to whatever ends-had been temporary halted with accusations of Thaicom stock manipulation and this charge is not expected to derail the situation much longer-since Korn appoints both the Thai stock market regulators and is a former stock market layer with close ties to the Thai stock market-by Pooky and Frank, this blog economics and political journalistic.

กรณ์ โยนเรื่องไทยคมทำผิดสัญญาสัมปทานให้ ครม. ตัดสินแนวทางแก้ไข ก่อนที่จะตัดสินใจว่าควรซื้อบริษัทไทยคมต่อไปหรือไม่
นายกรณ์ จาติกวณิช รมว.คลัง กล่าวว่า คณะกรรมการตามมาตร 22 ของพ.ร.บ.ร่วมทุนรัฐและเอกชน ปี 2535 พิจารณามีมติว่าการเปลี่ยนสัมปทานไม่ชอบด้วยกฎหมาย ซึ่งเป็นประเด็นเดียวกับที่ทางกระทรวงการคลังได้หารือกับกระทรวงเทคโนโลยี สารสนเทศและการศื่อสาร (ไอซีที) มาตลอด ดังนั้นจึงต้องส่งเรื่องนี้ ให้คณะรัฐมนตรี (ครม.) พิจารณาหาข้อสรุป ที่จะดำเนินการไม่ให้รัฐเสียเปรียบ
นายกรณ์ กล่าวว่า ต้องรอมติ ของ ครม. เรื่องไทยคมผิดสัญญาออกมาเสียก่อน หลังจากนั้นจึงจะพิจารณาว่าจะซื้อบริษัทไทยคมหรือไม่ และหน่วยงานที่จะเข้าไปซื้อจะเป็นหน่วยงานใด ซึ่งข้อมูลการตัดสินใจของ ครม. จะเป็นข้อมูลที่สำคัญว่าจะต้องมีการซื้อบริษัทไทยคมต่อไปหรือไม่
สำหรับเรื่องการปั่นหุ้นไทยคม ทางคณะกรรมการกำกับหลักทรัพย์และตลาดหลักทรัพย์ (ก.ล.ต.) ได้ขอข้อมูลกระทรวงการคลังในเรื่องนี้ และคลังได้ส่งข้อมูลให้ ก.ล.ต. ไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว อยากให้ ก.ล.ต.ดำเนินการเรื่องให้รวดเร็ว เพราะเรื่องอย่างนี้ประชาชนรอดูผลที่จะออกมา และมีผลกระทบความเชื่อมั่นในตลาดทุน รวมไปถึงเกี่ยวข้องกับข้อกล่าวหาที่มีต่อตัวแทนของพรรคเพื่อไทย ว่า มีพฤติการณ์ในการปั่นหุ้นเช่นเดียวกันหรือไม่
